When I was little I would always think about trying to catch the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. I was so convinced that if I could simply get to the end, I would surely catch the leprechaun and his pot of gold. Even as an adult when I think of St. Patrick’s Day, I think about that pot of gold and smile whenever I see a rainbow. So it seemed fitting to do a rainbow craft for St. Patrick’s Day. It is simple and turned out be absolutely gorgeous!

For this St. Patrick’s Day Craft You’ll need

  • Heavy Water Color Paper
  • Liquid Water Colors
  • Black Construction Paper
  • Plastic Gold Coins
  • Paint Brush
  • Glue
  • Small bowls or cups

Pour a small amount of the liquid water colors in some small bowls. You will want a separate container for each color of the rainbow. The fun thing about this is you can use this St. Patrick’s Day craft to teach or practice the colors of the rainbow. I asked my 5 year old daughter which colors we needed to make this rainbow craft. She knew them and we helped teach my 3 year old as we went along. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. For each color, she painted a line of the paper.

Do a line for each color until you have the entire paper filled up. I absolutely love the tie dye effect.

You will want to make sure it completely dries which can take several hours. After it is dry, cut out a shape of a pot out of black construction paper and grab your gold coins.

Now glue the pot of gold and gold coins over your rainbow.

It turned out so beautiful! We have a frame that we hang in our dining room for each kid that we change the art work out every month based on the holiday or season. I am so glad I get to look at this beautiful rainbow and pot of gold all March long and bring back that feeling I had as a kid that just maybe, there is that pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.
